Last night, Sean Avery spoke out on Twitter. As only he can, Avery threw John Tortorella under the bus. There’s no love lost between the two.
Fire this CLOWN, his players hate him and wont play for his BS…. @imseanavery is #winning

Some Ranger fans sided with Avery, who was tossed aside into the Hudson by Tortorella. Avery’s popularity remains despite a tumultuous second stint on Broadway. His tweet has been retweeted 1,423 times and favorited 440 times.
It caught the attention of every Ranger beat writer. They all had the same “woh” reaction I did. It’s Avery being Avery. He says they won’t play for Tort. Correct me if I’m wrong. Didn’t our team post the East’s best record last year and advance to the Conference Finals without him? How do you fire Tortorella now? Who do you replace him with?
I think anyone would agree that the 48-game season has been a disaster. The team lost too much. They gave a better effort last night. It still resulted in the fifth shutout of the season (second straight).
Avery can say what he wants. It doesn’t mean he’s right. Derek Stepan disagreed with his assertion following the game:
“But I don’t agree with (Avery’s tweet) at all, no. I think it’s safe to say that all 23 guys on our roster would say that’s not the case.”
Even if I feel Tortorella might not be the right fit moving forward, Avery comes off like a jackass. He’s bitter. It was his choice to retire. He’s forgotten that the Rangers were the only team that wanted him. Nobody else was interested. Maybe he needs to look in the mirror.
I respected him as a player. But his off ice demeanor is an embarrassment.

Avery is an ass…why he's even relevant anymore I have no idea, especially since everyone 'knows' he has an axe to grind.Thing about Tortorella though is that they got rid of/lost a lot of the guys who would run through a wall for him (Dubinsky, Anisimov, Prust, Fedotenko, Mitchell) and replaced them with a lot of older vets from other places (Halpern, Asham, Hamrlik, etc) who could care less about Torts' ranting and raving. Not to mention he's pretty much running Gaborik out of town. Those two things have really sped along the process of the team tuning out the coach.

The roster overturn definitely has contributed to their demise. It's not the same group and they lost their battle tested grit. Only 2 players who were active last night had fighting majors. The Rangers have totaled 12. Last year they ranked first.Agreed on Avery. Loser mentality.
